What to evaluate in managed hosting beyond disk space: resources, performance, SSL, backups, email, security, monitoring, support and scalability.
Comparing hosting plans only by gigabytes can lead to a poor decision. Storage matters, but website stability also depends on resources, configuration, security, backups and support.
## 1. Available resources
CPU, memory, concurrent processes, I/O and account limits affect how a website responds to traffic and application workloads.
## 2. Storage and server configuration
Storage performance and server configuration influence response times. PHP, database and related software versions also need to be compatible with the application.
## 3. SSL and HTTPS
HTTPS protects communication between the browser and server. Certificates should renew correctly and the entire site should avoid mixed-content problems.
## 4. Backups
Check how often backups run, how long they are retained and how restoration works. A backup strategy is incomplete without a recovery procedure.
## 5. Security and updates
Firewalls, abuse protection, account isolation and updates are part of server security. CMS platforms also require regular core, plugin and theme updates.
## 6. Business email
If email is included, review limits, sending reputation, SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication, filtering and compatibility with the team's email clients.
## 7. Monitoring and support
When a problem occurs, it is useful to determine whether it comes from the application, DNS, email, database or server. Support familiar with the platform can shorten diagnosis time.
## 8. Scalability
Hosting should offer a path to grow as traffic, products, users or processes increase.
### Conclusion
Good managed hosting is not measured only in GB. Performance, security, backups, support and scalability all contribute to digital continuity.
